FUNCTIONS AND THE USES OF PALM TREES

Palm trees are flowering plants that are mainly a perennial crops i.e it take more than three(3) years for it to grow, they are mostly evergreen.They have a lot of different functions and are used in different countries with various method of usage either locally or in a modern way.
Palm tree are  planted either in a compound or in a farm, they are very special trees with lot of usefulness.According to an adage which  says there is nothing wasted in a palm tree.

Most palm trees are tree like, with single trunks and either fan shaped.



The Arecaceae are a botanical family of perennial Liana, Shrubs, and trees commonly known as palm trees.

 They are flowering plants, the only family in the mono-cot order Arecales. Roughly 200 genera with around 2600 species are currently known, most of them restricted to tropical, subtropical, and warm temperate climates. Most palms are distinguished by their large, compound, evergreen leaves arranged at the top of an unbranched stem. However, many palms are exceptions, and in fact exhibit an enormous diversity in physical characteristics. As well as being morphologically diverse, palms also inhabit nearly every type of habitat within their range, from rainforests to deserts.

USES OF PALM TREES 
   
Palm Trees are everywhere around the world, they can be found around sea, farm or in a compound.In Africa palm trees are used for the folllowing;


For weaving; The leaves of palm trees are used for weaving basket and making of brooms. For weaving of a basket, the leaves must firstly be cut down, then the leaves must be dried until it turns a little bit brown then you start weaving your basket into different shapes and sizes.
Palm trees are used for making broom-This is how it's been used

1. cut down the branches.
2. Peel off the leaves from the branches.
3. Rub the tiny part of the branches with palm oil.
4. Dry it for some days
5. Then broom is ready for use.

AS A SOURCE OF INCOME; Palm trees serves as a source of income in most of the Africa countries,palm kernel which is gotten from palm tree is been exported to different countries outside Africa.
Palm wine is also gotten from palm kernel. It also serves as a means of employment

PALM TREES ARE USED FOR COOKING; Apart from the well-known coconut and date, there are other kinds of food from palms. Palm oil, Sago, heart of palm and palm wine are all eaten or drunk in different parts of the world. Palm oil is used in everything, from cosmetics to food ingredients.

USED FOR REFRESHMENT; For those of us who live in northern climates, palm trees evoke the easy life, relaxation, warm beaches and tropical sunshine. But those who live further south, surrounded by palm trees, see them with a more pragmatic eye, in terms of the employment and necessities of life that they can provide. In fact, palm trees are among the most beneficial plants in tropical countries, because of their wide geographical distribution and many uses.

USED FOR HOUSE CONSTRUCTION; In the rural areas palm trees are used for building huts and are used for covering the roofing of a building. They are also used as palm fronds.
